Youth Conservation Crew Leaders- Camping & Local

 

Field Crew Leader - Cherokee National Forest YCC Camping Crews - Summer 17 -

Supervise 5-6 person Youth Conservation Crew in a back country setting to perform environmental conservation and restoration projects. Crew leaders should be able to work effectively as a member of a crew; perform heavy manual labor related to environmental conservation and restoration projects; work outdoors in all types of weather and successfully adapts to various climates; camps overnight outdoors in wilderness areas near work sites for short or extended periods of time; effectively learn and apply new environmental conservation and restoration skills and outdoor living skills; actively participate in environmental education activities; practice appropriate safety procedures in all tasks assigned;be able to relate to and manage a diverse group of young adults aged 16-18; use, maintain and repair hand and power tools as necessary.  Projects vary but include trail construction and maintenance, ecosystem restoration, habitat restoration, fire fuels reduction, fencing on public lands, invasive weed removal, herbicide applications, and many others. Crew leaders should have relevant experience with young adult programs and conservation. This crew will primarily complete project work Monday - Thursday from the campsite.Crews will participate in recreational and education activites on fridays. CLs will be expected to drive an SECC vehicle.

Assistant Crew Leader - Cherokee National Forest YCC Camping Crews - Summer 17

Assist in supervision of a  5-6 person Youth Conservation Crew in a back country setting to perform environmental conservation and restoration projects. Crew leaders should be able to work effectively as a member of a crew; perform heavy manual labor related to environmental conservation and restoration projects; work outdoors in all types of weather and successfully adapts to various climates; camps overnight outdoors in wilderness areas near work sites for short or extended periods of time; effectively learn and apply new environmental conservation and restoration skills and outdoor living skills; actively participate in environmental education activities; practice appropriate safety procedures in all tasks assigned;be able to relate to and manage a diverse group of young adults aged 16-18.  Assistant Crew leaders should have relevant experience with young adult programs and a desire to learn about conservation work. The typical schedule for a camping youth crew is five eight-hour days, Monday - Thursday, from the campsite. Crews will participate in recreational and education activites on fridays. ACLs will be expected to drive an SECC vehicle.

Field Crew Leader - National Park Historic Preservation YCC Local Crew - Summer 17


This SECC youth conservation crew (YCC) is a non-residential program based in front country, urban setting. All project work will be completed within the Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park properties. Projects will focus on historic preservation of park monuments, tablets and canons, but may also may include trail construction & maintenance, habitat improvement, re-vegetation, etc. The YCC crew typically works Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm, with weekends off. During each week the crew works together during the day to complete a variety of physically demanding conservation service projects through out the park. This crew will primarily complete project work Monday - Thursday, and participate in recreational and educational activities on Friday. The Crew Leader will be expected to drive an SECC vehicle. This crew will have two leaders and they are expected to work as a team to promote the best season for the crew.

This crew will have two leaders and they are expected to work as a team to promote the best season for the crew.

Adult Conservation Crews - Camping & Local

 

Field Crew Leader - Veteran Fire Corps - Camping Crew

Responsible for leading  and working alongside a crew of recent-era veterans. This program provides training and on-the-job experience to veterans interested in gaining expereince in, and entering into careers focused on natural resource management. Leaders are responsible for all field-aspects of their crew including work, camp life, and crew dynamics. Prior chainsaw and leadership experience required. Must have s-212 B sawyer certification and 1+ years serves as a crew leader in a corps. Saw crew leadership a plus.

Supervise 7-8 person AmeriCorps crew to perform heavy manual labor related to environmental conservation and restoration projects. Crew leaders should be able to work effectively as a member of a crew; perform heavy manual labor related to environmental conservation and restoration projects; work outdoors in all types of weather and successfully adapts to various climates; camps overnight outdoors in wilderness areas near work sites for short or extended periods of time; effectively learn and apply new environmental conservation and restoration skills and outdoor living skills; actively participate in environmental education activities; practice appropriate safety procedures in all tasks assigned; use, maintain and repair hand and power tools as necessary.  Projects vary but include trail construction and maintenance, ecosystem restoration, habitat restoration, fire fuels reduction, fencing on public lands, invasive weed removal, herbicide applications, and many others. Crew leaders should have 1+ years experience in conservation work or with a conservation corps. The typical schedule for a local crew is four ten-hour days with three days off, or five eight-hour days, Monday - Friday.  The Crew Leader will be expected to drive an SECC vehicle. Will assist in training and leading an eight-person conservation crew in all projects as assigned.
