Invasive Species Meet Their Match Against the Forest Service and Southeast Conservation Corps

May 1, 2026 | Chattahoochee Oconee National Forest - Even as the National Invasive Plant Pests and Disease Awareness Month in April winds down, efforts to contain the spread of these damaging plants and diseases and eliminate them are still on-going across forests of Georgia.

That’s thanks to the partnership between the USDA Forest Service and the Southeast Conservation Corps, who are working to complete invasive species projects across the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest. Invasive species are among the leading causes of biodiversity loss in the United States and are linked to the decline of nearly half of endangered species, making early detection and sustained treatment critical on public lands.
