Split Rail Fences, Turkeys, and Good Work
April 13, 2019 | There are wild turkeys calling. In the predawn light we can here their throaty voices, floating to us over the tall, misty grasses of Cowpens National Battlefield in South Carolina. It is the third hitch and Spring has finally begun to show it's colors.

March 30, 2019 | Stretching and groaning, I attempt to rinse out the day before’s workload and emerge out from my cozy sleeping bag into the cold of dawn. As I slowly make the bold transition from dream state to reality, I remember how lucky I am to be where I am, waking up with the wilderness.

A Pretty Solid Routine
March 20, 2019 | A lot has happened in the last month for the crew. We attended fire school at the Cohutta Springs conference center, we were apart of a prescribed burn, and we traveled to South Carolina for our first assignment as red carded firefighters.

Uncharted Territory
February 15, 2019 | I feel like I’m apart of this really exclusive club and when I’m done, I’ll be able to benefit others with the experiences I’m having now. I’m looking forward to starting the class portion of this program, and then getting out on a fire. I don’t know what that’s like yet, but I hear its addictive, and I’m ready to get to work.
